Hey Y'all what's new? Valentine's day is approaching us! And I know it might not be everyone's favorite holiday because of its roots in commercialism, but it's one of my favorite days of the year, (and I'm not just saying that because I have a boyfriend, I swear.) I think it's great that we have a day of the year to celebrate love, whether it's love for a significant other, your family, your friends (Galentine's Day anyone?), or just love itself! Not to mention that its color schemes are about the best out of all of the holiday, red and green ain't got nothing on bright pinks and purples, deep reds, and pastel conversation hearts! I get especially crafty around this time of year, and I'm not sure if it's and instinct left over from Elementary school to have the coolest homemade valentines in all of the 3rd grade, or just the love endorphins getting to my head. However, I invite you all to join the celebration with me through this cute and simple "Heart Garland" craft!
Supplies:
- Colored Paper (I used two different tones of pink)
- Scissors
- String (I used baker's twine)
- Hole Punch
- Tape
- Sharpie
- Pencil
The first thing you are going to want to do is create a stencil so
you can have uniform hearts. I took a piece of scrap paper, folded it
into fourths, turned the paper into landscape view (hotdog style), and
drew a heart on one of the quadrants using up as much of the room as I
could. Then I outlined it in Sharpie and cut it out.
Then, fold a piece of colored paper into fourths, trace the stencil into one of the quadrants with a light pencil mark and cut around the traced line (paper still folded.) You should be left with 4 individual hearts. Repeat this step as many times as needed for your garland. I did it about 4 or 5 times for a garland that stretched across my hug dorm windows. You can use as many different colors that you want. Get Creative!
Once you have all of your hearts cut out, take your hole puncher and make a hole on each side of the heart. Be cautious to not get to close to the edge on the paper. You can stack multiple hearts on top of each other in order to get a more uniform look
Next, you're going measure your string. I did mine by taking the string and draping across my window with the desired amount of "dip" that I wanted. I cut about an inch more on each end for a little bit of leeway.
Then, take your hold punched hearts and begin to weave them through the string. With the first heart, tie a knot on the outermost hole to keep the heart in place. Alternate the colors however you want, but make sure to keep your weaving pattern the same throughout the entire garland. Once you get to the last heart, tie a knot on the out most hole of that heart as well.
Hang the garland wherever you want! I did mine on my window, but they would look cute just about anywhere! Over the fireplace, over your bed, by your desk, the possibilities are endless!
TTYL XOXO
